Different Types of Shot Glasses

Alcohol has been around for many centuries and we have come up with many ways to consume it. One of the methods is to use shot glasses, which are usually small glasses with thick sides and bottom. There are many varieties of shot glasses, so before buying one, you need to be aware of the varieties. Below are some of the common varieties of shot glasses.

Basic Shot Glass

Shot glasses usually hold about 1.5 fluid ounces of alcohol. However, there is no standard size for shot glasses. Still, most of them come in sizes that can hold liquor from 1.25 to 1.5 ounces. Basic shot glasses are simple glasses with thick bottom and sides, which can hold the right amount of liquor.

Tall Shot Glass

These shot glasses are narrower than the basic shot glass and so they are taller. As these glasses are taller than the basic ones, they seem to hold more liquor than the basic ones. However, that is just an illusion.

These glasses can be more appealing to people who do not like to drink a complete shot at once. These glasses are also great to drink liquor that evaporates quickly, as they offer only small area of contact between the liquor and air, thereby decreasing the rate of evaporation.

Short Shot Glass

These shot glasses are also called pony shot glasses and usually hold only 1 fluid ounce of alcohol. Short shot glasses are much common as they are especially used to enjoy mixed drinks, where an ounce of a kind of alcohol is poured into a larger volume of another kind of alcohol.

Fluted Shot Glass

These shot glasses are much similar to the basic shot glasses, except that they feature fluting on the base. The rim of these glasses will be usually wider than the base and they are usually associated with whiskey drinking. These glasses are suitable for people who love drinking high quality whiskey.

Cheater Shot Glass

These glasses feature very thick and heavy base, and give an illusion that it can hold much more alcohol than it actually can. However, these shot glasses usually hold alcohol less than 1.25 ounces; hence, the name cheater shot glasses. The glass can be suitable for drinkers who do not like to drink as much as others in the group but need to give an illusion that they are.
